Hypnotherapy for anxiety online
There are loads of reasons why more and more people are choosing to use online and video call software to get hypnotherapy for anxiety.
Some of the clients I work with are not local to my clinic, can't find childcare or care cover, can't leave the house and more recently because of a global pandemic.
Anxiety is a very difficult and exhausting issue to live with and online hypnotherapy can help you find a way through.Book a free phone consultation here
How can online hypnotherapy help anxiety?
Through a secure video call, using our clinic technology, online hypnotherapy is very similar to therapy in a therapy room.
Sessions are used to:
- Talk about the issues you are facing in detail so that we can make a plan
- Map out your thoughts, feelings and actions so that you can understand your pattern of anxiety
- explain and run through cognitive behavioural exercises that will help you change the way you think and feel.
- Hypnosis work that is relevant to the issues you are facing.
Following the session you will be emailed an mp3 of your personal hypnosis so that you can listen to it any time you need and also a cognitive behavioural therapy based exercise to complete before your next session.
If you would like to book a session then the button below will take you to my clinic online booking system and diary. All you need to do is create an account and choose a time that suits you.Book your first session now
How do I know if I have anxiety?
If you aren't sure then it can be a good idea to head to your GP first, especially if you would like a formal diagnosis.
Alternatively you can take a look at the following symptoms, taken from the NHS website:
- feeling restless or on edge
- being irritable
- getting tired easily
- having difficulty concentrating or feeling your mind goes blank
- having difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep
- having tense muscles
- your worrying is uncontrollable and causes distress
- your worrying affects your daily life, including school, your job and your social life
- you cannot let go of your worries
- you worry about all sorts of things, such as your job or health, and minor concerns, such as household chores
Hypnotherapy for anxiety
Hypnosis is a focus tool that you can use to essentially get your head back under control. It feels like you are in the "zone" or absorbed in a really good book.
When we use hypnosis therapeutically we can use that focus and encourage the mind to think differently. This is the basis of using hypnotherapy for issues like anxiety.
Techniques like visualisation are great when done using hypnosis and if they are good enough for sports people then they are definitely good enough for your mental health.
Using hypnosis we can invite your mind to imagine that it behaves differently in the situations that cause you anxiety so that you can effectively learn how to be calm and confident even if you are facing exams, medical tests or a job interview.
My preferred method of hypnosis is called progressive muscle relaxation which is an applied relaxation technique and is recommended alongside cogntive behavioural therapy. Using a combination of hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy is a very powerful way of helping issues like anxiety as it gives you back control.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for anxiety
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is what we call an empirically supported therapy, along with applied relaxation, there is very strong scientific evidence that it is effective for anxiety. The research has been compiled by the American Psychological Association and you can read their recommendations here.
The basis of CBT is that the way we think is linked to how we feel and ultimately how we behave.
As an example, a person who is anxious about social situations may think things like "what if everyone thinks I'm boring" or "what if I do something stupid.
These types of thoughts lead to certain feelings such as; heart racing, dread, anxiety, sweaty and loads more.
These feelings then lead to certain actions such as avoiding social situations.
The aim of CBT with Anxiety 2 Confidence is to help you work out what unhelpful thoughts are causing your anxiety and show you how to change them using a range of exercises and incorporating progressive muscle relaxation hypnosis.
